Three Choir Festival, Carlingford – May 2017
Singing with Swedish Visitors
Setanta Choir joined with Cor Chairlinne of Carlingford and Carpe Vocalis, from Skene in Sweden, in this special concert in St Michael’s Hall, Carlingford on 5th May. Carpe Vocalis had made the initial contact as they wished to combine a short visit to Ireland with a local concert. Arrangements were made for them to stay B&B in Carlingford for 3 nights and suggestions made for sight seeing and leisure time activities. The weather was hot and sunny and they really enjoyed their stay. They also proved very popular with wedding guests in a local hotel restaurant when they gave an impromptu recital during the festivities!
Each choir sang from their repertoire for about 30 minutes. Then all sang 3 pieces together at the end – Danny Boy, Thank You For The Music (ABBA) and Idag ska Martin i Jorden (Swedish folk song). The audience was especially impressed by the lively style of our Swedish visitors, whose varied repertoire featured a few Irish folk songs. Almost €1000 was raised from audience and choir members for the RNLI.
Afterwards all repaired to the Carlingford Sailing Club for refreshments and socialising and more singing.
